SHOPPING IN INDIA

The main profile of the rickshaw rally is not shopping, but there are a couple of information which can be really useful.

Shopping in India is cheap. When it comes to clothes, even in the biggest and fanciest shopping malls the prices are 50% lower than in Hungary. These big shopping malls are pretty similar to those in Europe. 3 storey building, full air conditioned with huge parking space in the basement. You can find the shops of worldwide known brands, local brands, souvenir shops, basically everything from a kettle to underware.

Other option for buying cloths, souvenirs or gadgets are smaller shops or stands next to the road. Most of the small shops are also air conditioned, but as it comes to prices, in here you can find really low prices and cheap items. The quality might be lower, but for those prices it maximally meets the expectations. At one shop I managed to buy 11 cloth items(Quicksilver and S.Oliver items amongst them) for 1100 Rupies(24 USD).

The best place to buy some souvenirs are the little towns, villages or tourist spots you will pass by on the way. The tourist spots might be a bit more expensive than a hidden shop in Chennai for example, but if you’re not with a local, it’s almost impossible to find these small and cheap shops. So, if you find anything catching on the way, go ahead and buy it, maybe there won’t be any more chance to get exactly that item, as most of them are handmade and unique. But don’t forget one thing! Always bargain! Even in shopping malls there is a chance to do so, and if you’re persistent enough, you will get the best price in the end.
