INDIAN AUTO RICKSHAW CHALLENGE 2006 - DAY THREE:

Day 3- Too many incidents on this eventful day

There was too much happening on the toughest stretch on this entire rally. Participant’s started from Pondicherry after the flag off at aroung 8:30 in the morning from Hotel Jayaram. Scott Carney of Curry in a Hurry was the first person to get struck with the chain problem in his bullet bike. It was nothinhg much as Kabali got it repaired and Scott continued with the rally.

It was the longest stretch and the day being brilliant the participants had a gala time. In a short while, the team overdrive had problems with the rickshaw’s gear box. With Kabali on the trip everything seems to be minor and he soon got the vehicle running. This day had not much of challenge tasks ahead but for fuelling at select petrol pumps.

The most unforgettable event of the day was the lead organizer, Aravind meeting up with an accident while riding his bike. He had a crash when he was trying to overtake a car driving ahead. A few cuts and bruises- he’s doing fine now! He ended up getting drunk as he was under a lot of pain. What a day!

Participants are getting wide publicity from the wide media coverage and everywhere they are being identified. There is always an excited throng of publc waiting to greet them- This is India for you, dear travelers.

There was no official dinner and most of the participants stayed at the Hotel Parisutham at Tanjore which was also the flag down venue. Not much of sight seeing. They chilled out having a lot of beer to that was followed by an idyllic skin dipping at the hotel’s pool.

The end of the third day gave the technical team a lot to work on. Quite a few repairs after three days of unrelenting journey and Kabali with his team sat up till midnight checking the rickshaws. The auto clinic was covered by SS Music as the team worked with a make shift light at the hotel.
