Thirteenth Day Alibagh to Mumbai 17th August
Pukka-Tuk-Tuk defends autorickshaw racing title - All the teams reach final destination
The CEAT Mumbai Xpress Autorickshaw Rally 2007 was finally flagged down today in Mumbai to close this years epic 1921Km rally that started out in Chennai thirteen days ago.
Team Pukka-Tuk-Tuk, consisting of Ian and Rachel Bayles, and who were last year's Rally winners successfully defended their title and won the first CEAT Mumbai Xpress Autorickshaw Rally Champions. The British couple from Goa completed all of the Rally's challenges and finished amongst the first in every leg.
"We really wanted to win this year" commented Ian. "We had minor fights during the race as I wanted 100% commitment in winning the race and Rachel sometimes wanted to have a rest but we are both very proud and happy to have won" he added. The couple will now retire from autorickshaw racing, though they may help in the organisation of future autorickshaw rallies.
All the teams drove in an escorted convoy after reaching the metropolis' border in Belapur. The Western India Automobile Association came to meet the participants and assist in leading the convoy through the Mumbai streets. Fortunately, no vehicle broke down or left the convoy, allowing every team to reach the final destination at Juhu Beach and settle in at their Hotel for the final nights celebrations.
The race's final party was hosted in a nearby location, where Lead organiser Aravind Kumar Bremanandam thanked all the participants and the sponsors.
The next rally, the CEAT Classic Autorickshaw Rally 2007, starts on 31st December 2007 and follows a 1000 km route between Chennai and Kanniyakumari through Tamil Nadu in South-India.
