INDIAN AUTO RICKSHAW CHALLENGE 2006 - DAY ONE: An awesome first ride on the three wheeled auto rickshaw

The morning of August 21st will be remembered always in the history of adventure sports for the start of the first Indian Auto Rickshaw Challenge. The rally’s flag off at the Besant Nagar Beach, Chennai by the popular film producer, S. Ram Kumar was attended by nearly 50 participants and hundreds of spectators. As sponsors, Ceat, SS Music and Red Bull were present for the flag off ceremony at the beach. The ecstatic and enthusiastic participants were photographed and interviewed by media. The event has attracted both national and international media- it was covered by almost all the leading TV channels, newspapers and magazines.

The rally started with a convoy of the pilot vehicle, baggage truck, rickshaws, Emergency vehicle, Recovery vehicle and the press. The participants were to reach Mahabalipuram riding along the east coast road by the evening of the first day. Since the road is excellent and less crowded, the participants were able to make it easily before the flag down time.

However, the highlight of the day was the breakdown of 2 rickshaws. It was no hassle as the recovery team soon set it right and the teams Radiance and Pukka Tuk Tuk continued their ride.

On their journey, several participants stopped at the Tiger caves and had the chance of gazing at an archeological digging going on in an oldest temple there. Having reached the destination for the day, participants went about the ‘stone town’.

It was 8:30 in the evening when all the participants got into the baggage truck all ready for the dinner hosted by Amar of MMRT 42 at his guest house near Mahabalipuram. The dinner was over by 11:30 and the participants retired to rest for the challenge that lay ahead.
