INDIAN AUTO RICKSHAW CHALLENGE 2006 - DAY FOUR:

Day 4- Too many incidents on this eventful day

The entire stretch of Tanjore to Madurai would have been a nightmare day for Organisers- How does one manage when all the rickshaws halt without a drop of petrol? Well, our organizers did it with the help of our mechanical team. The pilot vehicle- scorpio was going out of pudukottai town. The participants got the notion that the pilot vehicle was leading them and missed filling fuel at the designated petrol pump. And the end result all the rickshaws ran out of petrol at quite a distance from the town. The technical team had to rush to the rescue and fill up petrol in the rickshaws.

It was just a part of the day and it did not end with this. The team Snick Racing’s rickshaw had engine problems 10 kms from Madurai and the engine had to be changed. And when they reached Thirumayam fort Team Extreme Trifle rickshaw silencer let up. It was too much of noise and the team had to ride with cotton in their ears.

On the way to Taj Garden Retreat Thessaly of Maiden Voyager had problems

With the rickshaw’s gear box. She had to go in another rickshaw as the technical team took some time to repair.

The day’s sight seeing was restricted to the challenge task locations- just the Tanjore temple and Thrumayam fort. Later that evening, the participants decided to rest for the official dinner in the evening. The dinner was hosted the Madurai Round Table 14, Madurai Rotary and Ladies Circle 8 at the Vaigai Hall, at Taj Garden Retreat.

It was indeed a visual treat for the participants when the cultural team there performed “Karakattam” – a local dance. They were spellbound by the tricks showcased by the local artists- lifting a needle and a currency note off the floor with the eyes. A participant was made to lie on the floor and the dancer blindfolded chopped vegetables on the participant’s body. It was an evening for dance and drinks. Participants were completely plastered by midnight. A day of non stop fun, it was!
