DRINKING WATER IN INDIA

We all know that India is a very hot country and particularly Tamil Nadu so you will be drinking a lot of water especially after a night out boozing with friends. When driving around, usually you’ll drink 1 liter per 2 hours, so be prepared to stock up on some liquids!

Straight away I can tell you what not to do. Do NOT drink tap water. EVER! I’ve once filled up bucket of water for an experiment and let it stand for a while. After 3 weeks there were a bunch of worms growing there. And I don’t mean some tiny species, they grew up to 1cm in length. I guess it was a good biology experiment, but it shows that tap water in India is not for internal consumption.

The good thing is that you can buy bottled water anywhere in India. There are lots of shops in towns, cities, villages and on the road that sell water. In some remote places the water won’t be cool because they don’t have a fridge. Sometimes people will look at you strange when you say COLD WATER, so instead say WATER COOLING…This seemed to work pretty well for me

In most of the restaurants they serve filtered water unless you specifically ask for bottled water. To be on the safe side order bottled water in restaurants too. As a rule of thumb with many things in India, what is good for an Indian, can kill a white man …

According to my taste, the best water I tried in India was BISLERI and PONDICHERRY (apparently Pondicherry water is the best in Tamil Nadu). Other common brands are Aquafina and Kinley.
